This dangerous and extreme decision overturns 50 years of precedent and will have a devastating impact on youth experiencing homelessness.
True Colors United condemns today’s Supreme Court decision to overturn the Constitutional right to an abortion. The burden of this decision will fall hardest on people who already face systemic racism, sexism, and economic injustice – including every one of the 4.2 million youth and young adults who experience homelessness each year, as well as people of color, people of all ages experiencing homelessness, LGBTQ+ people, and young people.
The significance of this decision happening at the peak of Pride Month is not lost on us. In a time when anti-LGBTQ legislation is sweeping the nation, the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade is the latest attack on the right to bodily autonomy, particularly as those rights apply to women and trans people. A radical agenda has been laid out and is currently being executed to further restrict the civil rights of people most marginalized in our society.
True Colors United calls on Congress and the Biden Administration to respond with haste to codify abortion rights into law and reform the Supreme Court before it comes for all of us. Lives depend on it.
