This year, we’re celebrating Mother’s Day with Dominique Jackson AKA Tyra Allure Ross. Tyra is the chosen mother of our very own Program Officer Twiggy Pucci Garçon. For many young people, being close with their biological family simply isn’t an option. Often times, youth will make the choice to create their own familial structure, or chosen family.
Twiggy and Tyra met two years ago through a subculture of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community known as The House and Ballroom Scene. The House and Ballroom Scene is the birthplace of the dance style “vogue”, which was made popular by Madonna’s 80’s hit by the same name, and Vogue Evolution from MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew.
