Tell your governor: “We can do better on youth homelessness.”

Happy Independence Day from all of us at the True Colors Fund! However you celebrate, the 4th of July is a time to reflect on the progress we’ve made as a nation – and the work that remains ahead. For us, that means preventing and ending homelessness for all young people.

The State Index on Youth Homelessness is full of recommendations to help your elected officials improve your state’s work to end youth homelessness. Help us put it on their radar.

Take action.

The State Index on Youth Homelessness evaluates all 50 states and the District of Columbia on their efforts to prevent and end youth homelessness. The State Index provides a snapshot of some of the legal, systemic, and environmental barriers that youth experiencing homelessness face in each state. For example, in some states, running away from home is considered a status offense – punishable by law. In other states, curfew laws criminalize youth who have nowhere else to go but the streets. Barriers like these make it much harder for young people to safely access services and move into independence.

We need your help to make sure elected officials know where their state stands on youth homelessness. Send a message to your governor with your state’s score and recommendations for improvement. Complete this form to look up your state score and we’ll generate a personalized email and tweet for you:
