Every year, we set aside November 20 as a day to remember and commemorate our transgender friends and family members who lost their lives due to violence and rejection. This year’s International Transgender Day of Remembrance is especially important, as it’s also the date of Covenant House International’s Candlelight Vigil to Honor All Homeless Youth. According to a new study by the Family and Youth Services Bureau, Administration on Children, Youth and Families, nearly 7% of youth experiencing homelessness surveyed identified as transgender.
