40 of the Forty: Cynthia

It’s easy to doubt yourself… to feel weak, lost, or unprepared to handle the curveballs life often throws. We’d be lying if we said it’s always easy to overcome such doubts. But there is strength to be found in overcoming adversity, and pride to gain in surmounting obstacles.

Cynthia knows this, and offers up some advice in her 40 of the Forty interview!

True Colors Fund: What do you think about when you wake up in the morning?

Cynthia: I actually look at my phone and check the time and the weather so that I’m not late for work.

True Colors Fund: What’s your biggest dream?

Cynthia: I want to go to law school, specifically immigration law. I want to create an organization to make a difference in that sector.

True Colors Fund: What’s it like to be you?

Cynthia: I do struggle with depression a little bit. I have negative thoughts that go into my head. Other than that, I’m a pretty normal person, I guess. I work at Home Depot, in the paint section. It’s actually pretty fun.

True Colors Fund: Anything else you’d like to tell us?

Cynthia: You’re stronger and smarter than you think you are. <- TWEET THIS!

The 40 of the Forty list gives lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning youth who have experiences with homelessness and/or housing instability a chance to speak for themselves. The young people on the list were nominated by homeless youth service providers, social workers, educators, individuals, and other folks across the country. Over the course of forty weeks, we’ll be releasing full length interviews with each young person featured on our list.
