It’s an election year and there’s a lot of talk about what our nation’s priorities need to be for the next four to eight years. What we have to make sure is not forgotten is the epidemic of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender youth homelessness.
Our co-founder Cyndi Lauper has an op-ed in The Advocate today, in which she discusses the need to get our priorities straight in serving our youth. It goes without saying, but we agree 100%! When 40% of young people experiencing homelessness identity as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender (LGBT), but only 7% of the general population does the same, we can’t afford to waste our time.
That’s why we hope you’ll join us on April 27 for our second annual #40toNoneDay! Last year, we together reached more than 17 million people on #40toNoneDay with our message that everyone has a role to play in the movement to end LGBT youth homelessness. In her op-ed, Cyndi issues a challenge: “How many more can we reach this year?”
Leading up to the 27th, we’re organizing a Thunderclap to help our message travel far and wide. If you’re unfamiliar, Thunderclap allows a single message to be mass-shared, flash mob-style, so it rises above the noise of your social networks. Join the #40toNoneDay Thunderclap today to ensure that your voice is heard.
