We’re exited to share that the application period for the FY 2017 Youth Homelessness Demonstration Program (YHDP) is now open!
What is YHDP?
YHDP is an initiative designed to reduce the number of youth experiencing homelessness in the United States. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) will select up to 11 communities to develop and execute a coordinated community approach to preventing and ending youth homelessness. Five of the 11 selected communities will be rural communities.
$43 million is available through this program. Each community can apply for between $1 million and $15 million. There is no limit to the number of projects for which a community can apply. Awardees are given the opportunity to implement innovative new project models to end youth homelessness in their communities, and are supported with new relationships and resources along the way.
YHDP has five primary objectives:
- Build national momentum to end youth homelessness.
- Evaluate coordinated community approaches.
- Expand capacity to serve youth in select communities across the U.S.
- Evaluate performance measures to better measure youth outcomes.
- Establish a framework for federal program and technical assistance collaboration.
Who can apply?
All communities are encouraged to apply. Eligible applicants include: City or township governments, state governments, county governments, nonprofits having a 501(c)(3) status, and more. Read the YHDP Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) to see if your community or organization is eligible. Individuals, foreign entities, and sole proprietorship organizations are not eligible to apply.
How to apply?
Applications will be submitted through grants.gov (and not through e-snaps). Just follow these steps:
- Carefully read through the YHDP Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) to clearly understand the program expectations, requirements, rating and ranking factors before applying.
- The FY 2017 NOFA is similar to the FY 2016 NOFA, but there are important changes. Make sure to thoroughly read the new NOFA to understand the changes.
- Review the NOFA with the people you work with to make sure your organization is eligible to apply.
- Remember, eligible applicants include: City or township governments, state governments, county governments, nonprofits having a 501(c)(3) status, and more.
- Fill out this application for your community’s participation in the initiative.
- Applications must be submitted by a community’s Continuum of Care Collaborative Applicant, but must be co-developed with a broad array of community partners, including a youth advisory board*, a state or local child welfare agency*, youth homelessness housing and service providers, local schools districts, workforce development organizations, law enforcement, judges, corrections, and more.
