Our Storyteller Series is a professional development opportunity open to young people and service providers interested in expanding their skills in youth homelessness messaging.

2021-Storytelling-Series-3

There is no understating the power of storytelling. The stories we tell shape the way we view the world, the people in it, and the ways in which we understand the challenges, risks, and opportunities around us. When it comes to advocacy, storytelling is perhaps the most powerful tool we have. A compelling story can change hearts and minds on an individual level, by compelling someone to vote a certain way – and on a macro level, by expanding (or limiting) our imagination for bold solutions to problems.

True Colors United is launching a new training series to help advocates develop their skills as storytellers in the movement for housing justice. The way we talk about youth homelessness matters! We envision this series as a space to share knowledge and grow together as messengers.

NOTE: This training series is intended for homelessness service providers and youth & young adults with lived experience of homelessness or housing instability. Each training will be delivered twice – each time focusing on one of these specific audiences.

The three-part series will cover the following topics:

  • Part 1: Telling Personal Stories | Wednesday, September 15

    • Telling personal stories can be an effective way to establish yourself as an expert, yet it can too often feel icky and re-traumatizing. Our first training will dig into how to tell personal stories in a way that is safe, responsible, and contributes to your goals as an advocate.
