“I’m Gonna Build Me a Gender-Neutral Outhouse…”

Like many of you, we’ve been pretty upset over the recent string of anti-lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) laws being passed in states like North Carolina and Mississippi. Many of these laws target transgender citizens, making it illegal for them to use the bathroom that corresponds with their gender identity.

In the midst of the outrage and pain these laws are causing across our nation and world, people are protesting these laws in a number of different ways. The solidarity shown by LGBT and non-LGBT Americans alike has been inspiring. So imagine our joy this morning when we checked our email to find an original song by one of our supporters, dedicated to those affected by such legal discrimination.

Gary Reynolds, of Edmond, WV, wrote a catchy, compassionate little country tune called “Gender-Neutral Outhouse” – with absolutely golden lines like:

“No one there will scrutinize your plumbing,

To verify it matches your I.D.

Won’t be no stupid laws or regulations,

Except for one that’s ‘common courtesy.'”

Amen, Gary. Thanks for sharing!
