In a special Pride Month series from The Advocate, our friend Sassafras Lowrey and our very own Forty to None Project Director Jama Shelton speak with gay and transgender leaders about how experiencing homelessness as young people has affected and informed their lives and work.

Last week’s “Homeless to Hero” featured Shahera Hyatt, Director of the California Homeless Youth Project and leader in the state’s effort to end youth homelessness. In the article, Shahera highlights the importance of sharing one’s story:

“Young people experiencing homelessness and other ‘marginalized’ communities often have the strongest voices around; we just have to get out of the way and make space for them to speak.”

We invite you to share Shahera’s story on Facebook and Twitter! And don’t forget to check out the full article.
