Raise-You-Up-Community-Youth-Program

Since its Broadway debut, the Tony-Award winning Best Musical Kinky Boots has been working with the True Colors Fund to give lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) young people who are at risk of or are experiencing homelessness opportunities to learn about career opportunities in the theatre industry.

Our Raise You Up Community Youth Program gives youth a holistic behind-the-scenes look at the inner workings of a Broadway show, covering everything from hair and makeup to set design to marketing. As Kinky Boots has gone on national tour, we’ve gone with them – extending these opportunities far beyond Broadway. So far, we’ve brought Raise You Up to LGBT youth in New York City, Nashville, Detroit, Houston, and more!

Lifetime’s The Balancing Act recently joined us for a first-hand glimpse at Raise You Up, and sat down with the creative forces behind Kinky Boots (including our co-founder Cyndi Lauper, who wrote the show’s music and lyrics) and the Hetrick Martin Institute, one of our awesome community partners.
