“With this series, you’ll see how much knowing yourself and understanding yourself helps inform the scope of your abilities…”

Picture this: You’re going about your usual business when suddenly you run into a younger version of yourself – a time-traveler from the past. You hit it off (naturally) and over time, your younger self helps you come to terms with your sexual orientation… something you’ve been hiding and struggling with your whole life.

That’s pretty much how X-Men’s Iceman comes out in last year’s Uncanny X-Men #600. And now, Iceman is finally getting his own comic series. That’s right! After over 50 years, this founding member of the X-Men is getting the solo series he’s always deserved.

While Iceman is considered one of X-Men’s top-tier mutants, his powers haven’t been all that developed since his first appearance in 1963. As writer Sina Grace says, that’s all about to change. “With this series, you’ll see how much knowing yourself and understanding yourself helps inform the scope of your abilities, both as a human being and also as a superhero.”

So, not only are we getting our first ever Iceman series, but we’ll also be getting a comic about a mainstream gay superhero who comes to terms with his sexuality, and becomes a better hero in the process! That sounds pretty damn awesome!

Oh, and just in case you think Iceman’s being gay isn’t true to the original character… Writers have been hinting at his sexuality for years!
